CV and Profile

Deborah Weber was born in Johannesburg, South Africa in 1979. She graduated from the University of Cape Town with a BAFA in 2004, a Post Graduate Diploma in Fine Art in 2015 and her Masters (MAFA) in Fine Arts in 2020. 

 

She has been a practicing artist for two decades; working mostly in performance and video and interested in ephemeral and collaborative practice. In the early 2000’s her work focused on gender and sexuality and in 2014 she started exploring other social issues through collaborative practice with other multidisciplinary artists. These collaborative projects have explored themes such as; environmental threats, social justice, land ownership and restitution and gender-based violence, they have been largely performance based and exhibited as video installations at museums, galleries, art fairs and festivals nationally and internationally. Deborah created the umbrella organisation called Artcollab studio to house these projects.
